Set amidst the landscape of back-country Darien, this Connecticut residence was approached with a sensitivity to place and an appreciation for the quiet charm of its surroundings. Having remained largely untouched for decades, the home offered a strong foundation rich in character, yet ready to be thoughtfully reimagined. The design focused on renewing the house in a way that felt measured and respectful. Bringing clarity, warmth, and longevity while allowing the original spirit of the home to remain intact.

At the heart of the renovation, the kitchen was fully reworked to create a space that feels both grounded and welcoming. A custom stucco hood anchors the room, paired with a generous 13-foot island that lends scale to the open nature of the space, without overwhelming the architecture. Nearby, the family room was reimagined to fully embrace its floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing the surrounding landscape and sweeping views to become an integral part of the interior experience. In contrast, the living room and powder room were layered in deeper tones, introducing a sense of intimacy and balance within the home’s idiosyncratic layout.

Throughout the residence, moments of quiet sophistication are interwoven with thoughtful functionality. Custom elements, including a bespoke bunk room with brass detailing, were designed to feel intentional and enduring. A mix of custom, collected, and tailored pieces lends the home a sense of softness, ensuring each space feels lived-in rather than newly imposed. Spanning nearly 8,000 square feet, the home has been gently reinvigorated. No longer defined by the past, but thoughtfully shaped to support life as it unfolds; with room to gather, retreat, and evolve.
