Located in the heart of Southampton Village, this summer surf retreat was approached with a renewed sensitivity to its original cottage architecture and coastal setting. Over time, a disjointed open-plan layout had drawn focus away from the home’s inherent charm. A newly established design sought to bring clarity and cohesion back to the homes footprint, restoring a sense of rhythm and purpose while allowing the house to come back to its original form.

By thoughtfully reworking the plan, we introduced a series of intimate, layered spaces that gently orbit the true heart of the home: the kitchen. A newly introduced breakfast room, oriented toward the veranda, reshaped the movement through the house allowing it to flow with ease. This adjustment strengthened the home’s relationship to its surroundings, capturing the soft, shifting light of the Hamptons.

Custom carpentry throughout added texture and quiet structure, subtly drawing the eye in and lending a sense of considered craftsmanship throughout. Carefully sourced vintage and architecturally salvaged pieces reintroduced notes of history, grounding the interiors in the home’s original character. The result is a summer house designed for ease and longevity with mornings beginning with the first light and the pull of the sea beyond.
